In the bits of news into Asia includes the new lay flat seats from Hawaiian Airlines on its flights to China.
The direct route to Beijing from Honolulu has been on the schedule for the past 3 years, but beginning on May 31st of this year, a new aircraft will be used on the direct route. This is the Airbus A330-200 equipped with new lay flat seats in business class. They are in a 2 x 2 x 2 row configuration.
A total of 18 new lay flat seats in business class have been fitted in the aircraft. They are 20 ½” wide that when laid flat cover 76” in length. The entertainment monitor is 13” wide and the use of 2 USB ports and an AC outlet are also located in every cube.
The service in this area of the aircraft is the type of Island hospitality and comfort one would expect from Hawaii and is always present. Each business class passenger receives an amenity kit designed by Sig Zane. This kit is nicked named ‘E Hiamoe Maika'i' which is translated to Sleep Well. On every seat is an Auli‘ilani lehua flower pattern pillow for passengers to rest their heads on. The meals are designed by Master Chef Chai Chaowasaree that includes world class entrees.
The extra comfort section has also been changed with the addition of 28 new seats. This brings the total of extra comfort seats to 68 on each flight. These seats are 18” wide and also have 2 USB posts and an AC outlet but they are in a 2 x 4 x 2 row configuration. These passengers also receive priority boarding at the departure gate as part of the ticket price.
The economy section of the aircraft has 192 seats that are 16 ½” wide. The row configuration is 2 x 4 x 2.
Other flights this type of premium cabin can be found on out of Honolulu include Auckland, Brisbane, JFK in New York, Narita in Tokyo and Osaka.
