OVERVIEW My flight landed in Sydney in the early morning, so by the time I arrived at the hotel at 8:30 a.m., it was little surprise that my room wasn’t ready. The front desk clerk was helpful enough to give us a pass to the pool area, where we could swim laps, use the gym, or just shower after a long trip, and relax in one of the area’s day beds while using the free Wi-Fi. The staff continued to be helpful every step of the way, with expert advice from the concierge, and a smooth and easy check out upon departure.
LOCATION The location couldn’t have been more ideal. Not once did I have to take a cab, since everything I needed to see was within walking distance of this midtown hotel, including the Darling Harbor, the famed Sydney Opera House and countless restaurants.
ROOMS This all-suite property boasts 201 suites ranging from a Studio Deluxe to a three-Bedroom Duplex Penthouse. Since I was traveling with another couple, we requested a two-bedroom suite, which offered plenty of privacy, as the two bedrooms were located on opposite ends. My space was actually a one-bedroom suite with a fully-equipped kitchen, dishwasher, washing machine and living room, while the connecting room was a Studio Deluxe with fewer bells and whistles. It was a perfect home away from home during our time in Australia.
From our porch on one of the hotel’s topmost floors, we were able to enjoy a full vista of the city, and fully-opening windows allowed us to breathe in the fresh harbor air. Meanwhile, the LCD television and entertainment system had a DVD player and cable for downtime.
RESTAURANT AND BAR Full breakfast is served daily in the Mezzanine Lounge, starting at 6 a.m., with a nice selection of organic produce, fresh-pressed juice and more. Room service is available for dinner. All suites—with the exception of Studio Deluxe—have fully-equipped kitchens, including dishware, although with so many restaurants at our doorstep, we never had a use for it.
DOING BUSINESS Meeting facilities can accommodate as many as 140 guests in two rooms equipped with state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment. The hotel also has a business center with Internet and secretarial services.
LEISURE AND FITNESS I returned to the Leisure Center after my initial arrival to take advantage of the 65-square-foot indoor lap pool and 655-square-foot fitness area filled with cardio and resistance equipment, free weights and personal entertainment systems. The area also boasts relaxing spa and sauna facilities.
OVERALL After such a comfortable visit, I walked away truly surprised that the hotel brand had been so far off my radar all of these years. I’m happy to learn that there are additional properties in cities like Beijing, Hong Kong, New Delhi, Doha and London, and I look forward to visiting them all.
PRICE Rates start at AUD 278 for a one-bedroom deluxe suite, and AUD 523 for a two-bedroom deluxe suite.
