Delta Airlines is making a bold move by providing complimentary meals to all passengers on long haul domestic flights in America. This type of service is the first of its kind in modern time. This new service begins on March 1st, less than 2 weeks away.
The routes passengers will be offered this complimentary meal will be on the San Francisco to NYC routes NYC to Los Angeles at first. When this meal plan takes effect, Delta will be the only US commercial air carrier providing complimentary meals to passengers onboard domestic flights.
The menu begins with the morning flights that will be offering a choice of a Honey Maple Breakfast Sandwich, Luvo Breakfast Medley or fruit and cheese plate. The afternoon and evening flights will be serving Mesquite-Smoked Turkey Combo, Luvo Mediterranean Whole Grain Veggie Wrap and again the fruit and cheese plate to choose from. The red eye flights will be able to select items from a breakfast bar upon the last beverage serving before the flight lands.
In all, 12 routes of been selected to receive this new food service. After the introduction on March 1st on the above named routes, 10 more routes will see this new meal service expanded to include them. This will include flights out of Portland and Seattle to places on the east coast that include Washington DC, Boston, Fort Lauderdale, Raleigh- Durham and Orlando.
Passengers in the Delta Comfort Plus class will also be served a snack basket before the flight is over and complimentary alcoholic beverages during the flight. For the route from NYC to both LAX and San Francisco a Greek yogurt bar will be available.
Delta Airlines is taking the next step towards bringing back the services that were customary in the past. The only question is will the other airlines follow their lead? Time will tell.
